Online dating scams

You might have traits that make you more apt to be scammed in online dating.

Sweatheart scam-related news from the United States and elsewhere last week, some of which was posted by InspectaDate on Twitter and Facebook:

A "show me the money" request signals big danger in online dating.

WTVD-TV in Raleigh-Durham reports that a widow on a 50s-and-older online dating web site lost thousands from a sweetheart scammer who claimed to working in the Ukraine and needed money. And local authorities say she isn't the first victim.

Be careful how much of yourself you reveal to others
in online dating and flirting.

The Toronto Sun reports that Toronto Police are getting complaints about an online dating scam in which fraudsters using fake profiles are luring contacts into racy video chats. Then the scammers say they have recorded the chats and will spread them around unless the victim sends money.

Comedian Mike Bobrinskoy met a professed model named "Alexandra" on OK Cupid who wanted him big-time.

She also wanted $850 of his money to avert a personal crisis.

The stand-up guy from Chicago plays along with his bogus new scammer pal through some hilarious email exchanges. The fun for him – and the frustration for "Alexandra" – starts at 1:12 in the video.
