Are you prone to an online dating scam? These traits could put you at higher risk

You might have traits that make you more apt to be scammed in online dating.

Martin Graff of Psychology Today writes about new research from Monica Whitty of the University of Warnick in the United Kingdom regarding who is most at risk. Whitty's study tags several pyshcological characteristcs that might flag if someone is more likely to be an online dating scam victim than someone else. Among them:

  • impulsiveness
  • high trust in others
  • an addictive personality
  • and kindness (Oh no, not that one!)

In addition, Whitty's study said age could factor into vulnerability of being scammed, with middle-age people more suseptible and women more likely to be zapped than men.
