New day for marriage checks: Same-sex marriage clearance signifies historic week for Florida and its marriage records
Date inspecting for past and present marriages in Florida has a new dimension.
County circuit court clerks throughout Florida recorded their first same-sex marriages on Tuesday, with several counties reporting a brisk business. The court-cleared change makes Florida the 36th state to allow gay and lesbian marriages. But one constant hasn't changed so far with those times: The state's uniform marriage license form still includes headings for a bride and a groom.
Search for marriages using the InspectaDate quick links to the Florida county circuit court clerk's offices. MyFloridaCounty.com offers a search of muliple counties at once, although not all counties are included. And keep in mind that some clerk's offices post their marriage records online faster than others. Depending on the county, you may be able to see the image of the marriage license itself.
You won't get the information instantly, but the Florida Office of Vital Statistics in Jacksonville will do a statewide search for marriages in Florida for a fee.
Miami-Dade County recorded the first same-sex marriages in the state. Any bets on which Florida county will record the first same-sex divorce and when?
