Fox 2 News, St. Louis: Woman attacked, man charged after online dating encounter
This story from Rebecca Roberts of Fox 2 Now in St. Louis describes how a St. Louis County woman's dinner date with a man she met online got weird, dangerous, and led to a man's arrest.
The story doesn't mention the name of the online dating website that brought the woman and man together, but the video of the story indicates it was Ourtime.com.
Here's more from the story:
According to the dating website he used, “criminals or other ‘shady’ characters using the service” violates the terms of use.
But the website also states, “The company currently does not conduct criminal background checks.” That’s why police say it’s important to investigative someone before meeting them in person, and recommend meeting in a crowded place.
The story notes that public records indicated the suspect had pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon in 1997. He is now charged with at least five counts of unlawful firearm possession, sexual misconduct, and assault, the story says.
Law enforcement agencies in many states, including the Missouri State Highway Patrol, offer the ability to do criminal background checks for a fee that will indicate criminal history in that state at the least.
