Welcome, newcomers, to InspectaDate! And, to those of you who have been visiting, thanks and welcome back!

You've found the place for free public records, research and dating safety tips, and other resources to help you play a smarter, safer and better dating game.

Dating wisely has never been more critical. Practically everybody looks for a soulmate at one time or another, and online dating is surging. Unfortunately, plenty of scammers, catfish, abusers and fakes are in the dating game, too. Just one bad dating experience online or off can devastate your life, and maybe the lives of others in your family.

Match.com, eHarmony and many other online dating sites advise you to play it safe. Do your own research, they say. But how? The dating companies offer little help, and there's more to being an effective date inspector than Googling someone or scoping their Facebook or Linkedin accounts (although those are good places to start).

With InspectaDate, you can learn how to better inspect and truth-check your date using a wide variety of FREE resources. We'll examine how to weed out fake online dating profiles, expose catfish, and how to determine if love interests are leveling with you about their relationship status (married, divorced, taken), criminal history, assets (property ownership), bad debts, job status and more. In fact, InspectaDate features more than 750 FREE public records links for inspecting your date with more coming. Many of the tips, news and other details offered here will apply no matter whether you live in the United States or abroad, although most of the public records are geared to Florida.

As a Florida resident, former journalist, and author of the Florida Public Records Handbook, I've spent thousands of hours digging through records online and off. Over the years I've spoken to more than 1,000 journalists and others (including police, court clerks and librarians) on how to use public records effectively. I also hold a Florida private investigator's license. And, for the record, thank goodness that I found the love of my life many moons ago.

So why does a long-time, happily married guy start a website like InspectaDate?

Because I've seen a lot of friends and others who suffered really painful and damaging consequences stemming from poor dating decisions — results they likely would have avoided if they had known about just some of the free resources featured on InspectaDate. But even the best resources can't help you unless you know about them. In that regard, InspectaDate is a matchmaker. My interest in the dating game is to help you avoid dating disasters and to enjoy better, safer and smarter dating that leads to a more fulfilling life. 

That's not to say the resources presented here (or anywhere else!) are all foolproof. They have strengths and weaknesses. And just because someone checks out in great ways doesn't ensure compatibility or chemistry. An honest, attractive jerk is still a jerk! But the key is to play the best, smartest, and safest dating game that you can. You can do this, and InspectaDate can be your ally! The decisions you make are up to you.

And finally, a more personal note.

Since 2004, I've been working on versions of this site with setbacks and challenges of all sorts. I'll spare you the details. But during every Valentine's Day Week over the past decade, I've wondered: Could this be the year that I finally do something with this? Will I still have teeth left when it happens? Might I croak first?

Since late 2014, I've been tinkering with this version of InspectaDate as a BETA site, just letting people find it without doing much to alert anyone. And here's the deal:

There's still tweaks to make.
Still kinks to iron out.
Still resources and new features to roll out.
And still lots to do to make this site more user friendly.

But perhaps InspectDate can be a dating game changer for you now, as the work in progress that it is. And, besides, it's Valentine's Day.
