Will make-up and lighting tricks for your online dating profile picture pay off?
Going glam for online dating profile pictures yields mixed results when it comes to attractiveness and trustworthiness, University of Connecticut researchers found.
This story from Naomi Greenway for the Daily Mail in the UK reports some interesting findings from "Too Hot to Trust: Examining the Relationship Between Attractiveness, Trustworthiness, and Desire to Date in Online Dating," by Rory McGloin, Amanda Denes and Olivia Kamisher. More from the story:
A study found that although men were more interested in dating women who appeared artificially enhanced by make-up or lighting in their profile pictures, they also deemed them less trustworthy. However, despite being slightly suspicious of the women who'd been given an artificial boost, they were still more likely to want to date them over their plain Jane counterparts.
Women on the other hand were slightly more naive and found artificially enhanced images of men not only more attractive but more trustworthy too.
The research found that photographs of beautified women where hair, lighting and make-up have all been enhanced, increased their attractiveness but lowered trustworthiness.
The UCONN reearch involved 305 hetrosexual subjects aged 17 to 36 who reviewed two pictures of the opposte sex.
