Search for sexual offenders, predators nationwide

Put this one on your "essentials" list of date checks.

Each state designates sexual offenders who must register with authorities and make their whereabouts known to the public.

The U.S. Department of Justice gives you the ability to search for these offenders in one place.

And, while the database isn't flawless, it's a key resource for anyone who wants to check out a potential date.

In many cases, results include a picture of the offender along with their age and actual address. Keep in mind, however, that the database depends on the reporting state agencies. Also, how people are classified as sex offenders and registration requirements vary across the states.

Besides the 50 states, the offender search the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, and Indian Country, according to the web site. The site includes answers to frequently asked questions and features links to the online sexual offender directories of states.
