Online dating soldier scam zaps North Carolina woman for $18,900

A scammer who claimed to be a soldier in Afghanistan turned an online dating experience into a nightmare for a North Carolina woman.

Diane Wilson of ABC 11 Eyewitness News WTVD in Raleigh-Durham reports how a woman looking for a friend was scammed out of nearly $19,000.

The story says a quick Google search indicated the same pictures that a man named "Larkin" used to deceive this victim showed up in other reports of online dating scams. Those pictures were probably stolen off social media sites, the story suggested.
