Make it your business to prove the business claims of your date in Florida.

One of the best free resources for quickly checking out your date is sunbiz.org from the Florida Department of State Division of Corporations.

You can learn about details such as whether your date is really an office or a principal player in a Florida corporation, limited liability company, general partnership or whether the person is linked to a fictitious business name.

All of these searches and more are available on one page as shown partially above.

Other details to look out for are whether the business is still active, who other registered officers or leaders might be, and the address of the business.

All these things can help you determine whether your love interest is being square with you about business engagement. This site is an important basic check for anyone you might be dating or who might be in your sights.

The federal lien registrations on this page, by the way, refer to Florida businesses that your date might be involved in, not IRS tax liens against individuals themselves. You can research those in the official records of the county circuit court clerk's offices.
