This story from Kitty Knowles of The Memo reports on the darker-side findings of an online dating survey of Brits by web security firm Norton. More from the story about the report's findings from surveying more than 3,000 British, French and German online daters:
- 28 percent said they had been victims of catfishing
- 43 percent said they had met somone online only to find out the person was in a relationship
- 31 percent said they had been asked for money or financial help by someone online
- 38 percent said blackmailers had threatened to make public racy images sent in confidence
- 19 percent of respondents said they had used online dating to start an affair
These results correspond with a recent Daily Mail story on how crimes linked to online dating — particularly blackmail and rape — have doubled in three years.
